At CareDAO, we believe in providing a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for co-creation. As a do-ocracy, we love autonomy and self-determination. One of the best qualities a volunteer can have is the intuition to jump in where needed. This includes attending meetings, recruiting/supporting new joiners, providing suggestions/feedback, or participating wholeheartedly in our collaborative processes. As a meritocracy, we believe that our actions speak louder than words. FP goes beyond titles and structure to provide an environment where our contributions speak for themselves. We believe in humility and that by focusing on what is best for the entire community, we can all contribute to the success, health and future of this vital initiative!
Our 👍 Best Practices is just 1 pillar of our 🚥 Volunteer Etiquette Guidelines. Please refer to our other pillars:
FightPandemics' đź‘Ť Best Practices
- FightPandemics (FP) expects all volunteers and community participants to abide by the 🚥 Volunteer Etiquette Guidelines in all community channels, calls, events and in-person–as well as in all one-on-one communications pertaining to FP.
- FP has created a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for each volunteer to learn and acquire new skill sets, but that in doing so, anyone could possibly make mistakes the first time around. While mistakes are possible, volunteers should report them immediately to their coordinators/HR team/and @ManuAlzuru🥑 so that these mistakes can be rectified before any harm comes to our product, processes or community.
- In a co-creation environment, volunteers have the ability to comment and edit on their co-creator's work, and everyone's work may be subject to constructive criticism. Volunteers agree to provide constructive criticism only in a humbly and respectful manner and not unnecessarily berate their co-creators. Volunteers also agree to talk privately with their co-creators should there be a need for clarification regarding and or should they take issue to any of their co-creators' comments/edits.
- Should there ever be an issue with any of the co-creators at FP, and if anyone is not able to resolve the issue in private communication with the individual, they should not air the grievance publicly out of respect for the individuals and the community. Volunteers can escalate the issue by speaking to the HR team, speaking with @ManuAlzuru🥑, or by filling out the FP grievance form. Manuel and the HR team will address all grievances in a timely manner.
- While FP is solely run by volunteers, we still have deadlines and expectations and coordinators may be contacting volunteers daily for updates so that they can keep the team updated as volunteers will be constantly rotating through positions/tasks. Volunteers should consider their availabilities and only commit to the tasks that they can complete on time. If volunteers find that they don't have the skills or the time to complete the task as intended, they should communicate with their team and proactively hand the task off to another team member. At the same time, while tasks need to be completed within a reasonable time frame, volunteers should not pressure each other; instead we support each other and find ways to assist each other if we need it.
- Volunteers at FP have the support of their co-creators and at any point, they can ask for help, comments, and edits on their contributions. At the same time, while they can do the same for them, FP volunteers understand that they should respect their co-creator's abilities and give them the space they need to fully formulate their contributions before they comment, unless otherwise asked to do so.
- Should any of FP's 🚥 Volunteer Etiquette Guidelines be violated, FP has the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions that are not aligned to FP's 🚥 Volunteer Etiquette Guidelines. FP also has the right to temporarily or permanently ban any contributor(s) for behaviors that we deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful, effective immediately without any additional communication with such contributor(s).
- At FP, volunteers are not alone and have a whole team of other contributors to back them up. This is your new community. This is your tribe. It takes a village to raise a baby. It takes a community to make this initiative a success.
